ATF Responds to Major Cybersecurity Incident 🚨

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) is currently addressing a major cybersecurity incident following claims made by the Qilin ransomware gang. According to an ATF spokesperson, intruders accessed a standalone computer system containing sensitive information about ATF investigations. Importantly, this system was not connected to any other ATF networks.

The ATF has confirmed that this security breach has not impacted its operations. Senior officials from the Justice Department have classified the incident as a major event under federal guidelines.

“There is no indication that the incident has affected the ATF enterprise network, the ATF eForms system, or any other ATF system,” stated the spokesperson. However, they declined to provide further details regarding the breach, including specifics about the ransom demand or the data that may have been compromised, citing an ongoing investigation.

ATF is working closely with the DOJ to investigate the breach and has taken immediate action by blocking connections to the affected IT environment upon discovering the incident.

Shortly before ATF’s announcement, the Qilin ransomware group, known for its previous attacks, listed the agency on its leak site. The post did not specify what data was claimed to have been stolen or provide any evidence to support these claims.
