Cyberattack Disrupts Operations at Nichirei, Japan’s Food Giant 🚨

A significant cyberattack has hit Nichirei, one of Japan’s largest food companies, causing major disruptions in logistics and shipments. The company confirmed that the system outage reported on July 13 resulted from this cyberattack targeting its servers.

Nichirei has established an emergency response team to investigate the incident and coordinate recovery efforts. In a notice, the company stated, “Nichirei Corporation (the ‘Company’) experienced system failures on July 13, 2026, and has since been investigating its cause. The Company hereby announces the facts identified through the investigation to date and the measures it plans to take going forward.”

The investigation revealed that some compromised servers contained personal information, raising concerns about a potential data breach. Nichirei has notified Japan’s Personal Information Protection Commission and is continuing its investigation. The notice concluded, “The Company will continue its investigation and, should any leakage be confirmed, will promptly report the matter to the relevant parties.”

To contain the attack, Nichirei disconnected group systems on July 13, disrupting refrigerated warehouse operations and frozen food shipments. After collaborating with external cybersecurity experts, the company plans to gradually restore affected operations starting July 17.

The cyberattack has caused system outages that are affecting restaurant chains, major retailers, delivery services, and other businesses that rely on Nichirei. The company has announced it will begin resuming services starting Friday, but it cannot confirm when operations, including its supply-delivery service, will return to normal.
