Cyberattack Disrupts Delhaize Supermarkets in Belgium
A cyberattack has impacted the freezers and refrigerators at dozens of Delhaize supermarket locations across Belgium. Reports indicate that at least 40 supermarkets were affected by this incident, which the company described as an “IT incident” impacting their refrigeration systems. 🚨
The attack appears to have targeted multiple cooling systems linked to Delhaize’s operations, occurring either late Sunday night or early Monday morning. As a result, the temperatures in these systems rose sharply, causing significant concern. ❄️
In addition to Delhaize, Carrefour Belgium has reported that fifteen of their stores have also been affected. Furthermore, Swedish media has highlighted a similar situation involving the ICA supermarket chain, where temperatures in their cooling systems reportedly soared to 50 degrees Celsius overnight. This incident echoes a large-scale cyberattack on refrigeration systems in French supermarkets last month, which disrupted hundreds of retail locations. 🥵
Delhaize is owned by Ahold Delhaize, the same parent company as Albert Heijn. A previous cyberattack last month forced Ahold to shut down a wide range of its IT systems, impacting supply chain, distribution, and retail operations across various brands, including Etos and Gall & Gall. This led to empty store shelves and halted logistics, with the situation only returning to normal last week. 📉
