Data brokers are constantly doxing us, and we can’t do anything about it
The main purpose of a data broker is to make money, as they sell all kinds of data to various individuals and organizations worldwide. This includes selling to political organizations to target voters. Data brokers often disregard the potential for misuse of the data they provide, such as selling to foreign entities trying to influence elections.
We have a lack of transparency regarding the sourcing and selling of personal information. The amount of personally identifiable information (PII) collected has significantly increased, with now over 700 types of data, including sensitive information like political affiliations and court records.
Cybercriminals can exploit this information for fraud and data theft, which raises serious concerns about how our data is being utilized and the lack of penalties for data brokers who engage in this behavior.
