Cybersecurity Firm Profero Cracks DarkBit Ransomware Encryption

Cybersecurity firm Profero cracked the encryption of the DarkBit ransomware gang’s encryptors, allowing them to recover a victim’s files for free without paying a ransom. The security company reported that it successfully decrypted files locked by the DarkBit ransomware family and can assist victims in recovering their data without paying the cybercriminals. Profero researchers analyzed the DarkBit ransomware samples and identified weaknesses in the encryption implementation that enabled them to develop a functional decryption tool.
